The Kokoda Track Trek Itinerary Comments

Itinerary | Itinerary at a glance | Itinerary Comments| Kokoda trekking pholosophy

Teams 1A, 1B and 3-13: Kokoda to Ower's Corner

The total package is 11 days, with a 9 day / 8 night trek. This is the Back Track Adventures standard itinerary.

It is a sensible itinerary that allows enough time to explore and understand all the battle sites, meet the locals and obtain an insight  to their culture and enjoy the trekking experience while not detracting from the overwhelming sense of achievement obtained by challenging yourself on the Track.

The availability of new camp sites and rest houses along the Track in recent years, gives us greater flexibility to change the nominated camps showing in our brochure should Track and travel conditions, or Team welfare, warrant such considerations.  View itinerary at a glance | View detailed itinerary

Teams 2: Ower's Corner to Kokoda

Team 2: This Team will start trekking at Ower's Corner and meet up with Teams 1A and 1B, that start  in Kokoda. All Teams meet at Brigade Hill and camp together on the eve of Anzac Day. Together you will celebrate the Anzac Day ceremony  at sunrise at the Battle site on the summit of Brigade Hill. Our Kokoda trekking philosophy

We strongly believe that our trek over the Track should be an adventure holiday, a cultural and historical insight, as well as a physical and mental challenge.

Our sensible approach to trekking allows for time to stop and enjoy the villages and the culture as well as gain a good understanding of the war campaign.

We acknowledge that for most trekkers, completing the KokodaTrack will be a tough physical and mental challenge. However, we also note that it should be a fun and rewarding holiday experience as well. Our sensible itinerary provides enough time to explore the overwhelming majority of battle sites and lesser significant historical war locations. There are half days as well ensuring a proper mix of effort and recovery and this recovery, or relaxation time, allows for an opportunity to meet and mix with the local people.

Our Trek Leaders love their job. They love sharing their passion with you for trekking the Track, while explaining the war history, providing an understanding of the culture and sharing the beauty of the jungle environment and the trekking challenge.

Most importantly, they will ensure that you finish the Track safely and with a lasting understanding of what the Kokoda Campaign was all about. The fascinating war stories, relived as you trek, of the soldiers who fought and died along every foot of the Track will never be forgotten.

Our ultimate aim for all our Kokoda trekkers is that we all, in some small way, gain an understanding of the challenges our soldiers faced and overcame, their courage, mateship, endurance and sacrifices.

Your trek over the Kokoda wartime Track with Back Track Adventures will be a safe, fun and a personally rewarding experience.

See you all on the Track in 2010.
